Beyond Helvetica: The Evolution of Swiss Design in Europe by Artem Velychko

international swiss design

Inspired by the 1917 revolutions, Russian artists like Kasimir Malevich and El Lissitzky sought to re-define art for coming socialist era. Their solutions, Suprematism and Constructivism, utilized simplified geometric forms and strong, sans-serif typography placed in unusual configurations. The Bauhaus mantra of 'form follows function' applies to design in the spirit of the International Typographic movement.

This cross-cultural collaboration blends the unique perspectives of Karimoku’s craftspeople with an international group of designers, presenting new standards in Japanese furniture design. The Swiss design principles have been adopted worldwide, and it has greatly impacted modern typography. Swiss typography is known for its clean, simple, and minimalistic approach. This approach has been widely adopted in modern typography, making it more functional, legible, and accessible. Swiss design is widely recognized as one of the most influential design movements of the 20th century.

Swiss Design as the International Typographic Style

It’s not just a style; it’s a philosophy where simplicity meets precision, and every line serves a purpose. Everything that defined the International Typographic Style began with a grid. By carefully placing text flushed left, designers could have organized and legible information.

Typography

Swiss designers believe that design should be functional, minimal, and universal, and should communicate its message in a clear and direct way. This principle is one of the core reasons why Swiss Style graphic designers pay so much attention to type. Typeface is one of the most fundamental elements of visual communication that is able to deliver the message in a very precise, clear way.

And let’s not forget about articles on postmodern graphic design, grid systems in graphic design, Gestalt principles of design, and the golden ratio in design. It’s like the design version of that friend who’s always straight to the point. Meanwhile in Holland, artists like Theo von Doesburg and Piet Mondrian established a movement that came to be known as De Stijl (or simply “the style”). Spanning architecture, painting and graphic design, De Stijl’s principles were rooted in mathematics and grid forms that served as compositional tools. Swiss style is considered one of the most large-scale phenomena in graphic design.

Style features

“I thought, if somebody’s taking care of the baby, they have a space where they can come and feel like it’s a retreat,” Sabatella says. The designer outfitted a door handcrafted in India with a vintage mirror to create a one of a kind headboard and bathed the space in deep emerald green. The glamorous touches continue in the ensuite bath, where Sabatella added a custom mirror-tiled tub that plays off the vintage French tile floor. Designer Lara Hovanessian packed plenty of bold design elements into the powder room and adjacent lounge. A moody House of Hackney floral wall covering lines the dressing area, which leads to a powder room accented with a Kelly Wearstler’s Graffito II from Walnut Wallpaper. A black-and-white triangular mosaic tile floor by Artistic Tile from Mission Tile West puts a contemporary twist on the classic checkered pattern.

The use of Helvetica might not define International Typographic Style, but its everywhere presence is a constant reminder of the impact those radical Swiss have in our everyday lives. About 125 miles northeast of Hofmann and Ruder’s School of Design, Max Bill and Otl Aicher opened their own school in Ulm, Germany. These teachings fell into step with the objectivity and readability of the International Typographic Style, which aims to create content that is easily recognized and understood by anyone who views it. Originally released by Danberry & Peignot in 1957, the family passed through the hands of the Haas Type Foundry before being purchased in 2007 (along with all of Linotype) by Monotype. Designers Frank Slesinski and Serena Brosio collaborated on the charming living room in the Gatehouse. “One of the main things we did was add a window seat, which looks like it should always have been here,” Slesinski says.

Unity was also maintained through a heavy use of repetition in color and shapes and further emphasized through transformation of the shapes. Layouts tended to be asymmetrically organized on a mathematically constructed grid. The asymmetry gives greater emphasis to whitespace as does the general minimal aesthetic. Swiss designers were after an asymmetrical balance between the positive and negative elements in a design. Perhaps the most well known of the Swiss Designers was Josef Müller-Brockmann who was a designer, teacher, and writer.

Type interacts with design, and together, they dance to the rhythm of clarity and precision. Keller was all about breaking norms, pushing boundaries, and thinking outside the box. He was the cool teacher at the Zurich School of Arts and Crafts who told his students to experiment and innovate.

The format of the journal represented many of the important elements of the style—visually demonstrating the content—and was published internationally, thus spreading the movement beyond Switzerland's borders. Magazines placed more emphasis upon graphic design during the postwar period. Alexey Brodovitch, the art director of Harper’s Bazaar from 1934 until 1958, pioneered a new approach to magazine design. The beauty of Brodovitch’s designs was enhanced by the impressive team of collaborators at Bazaar, which included photographer Richard Avedon.

Their style, which was called the International Typographic Style at the time, was guided by the ethos that design should be as invisible as possible. All traces of the designer’s subjectivity should be suppressed in order to let the “content” of a work shine through. It is similar to the axiom of architectural modernism that form should follow function. Asymmetrical layout was inherited by the Swiss school from the tradition of the International Typographic Style. Originating in the 1920s, the tradition of asymmetrical text layout became fundamental in Swiss graphic design. The Swiss school made asymmetry the basis of the graphic style, improving the techniques of asymmetrical layout and creating its stable standard.

These guys weren’t just designers; they were educators, shaping the minds of future generations. Swiss Design isn’t just about looking cool; it’s a mindset, a way of solving problems through design. Imagine stepping back in time, right to the moment when Swiss Design started shaping up. It’s a reaction, you know, to the fancy curves of the Arts and Crafts movement, German Jugendstil, and French Art Nouveau. Schaefer's Canal House Chesapeake City, Maryland Chesapeake Bay Marina

schaefer's canal house chesapeake city maryland

They are able to run this top notch facility because of the knowledgable & friendly deckhands. (Olivia Marro, Leah Stubbs, Scott Seisler) Schaefer's is without question your #1 way point when transiting the C&D Canal. Staff was great - and knowledgeable of local conditions and setting lines for the 3+ foot tide swings. Restaurant next to dock was excellent. Not sure if there was a 'go fast' boat convention in town, but the exhaust noise from noon 'til dark was really ridiculous. The high outside dock in front of the restaurant prohibited us from getting on and off of the boat at low tide.

LGBTQ+ friendly,

Great stay at Schaefer's marina. Stopped at the fuel dock and took on 750 gallons of fuel. Dual pumps made fueling easy and fast. Nice discount for large quantity of fuel. Great line handling from the dock hands. Moved tp the bulkhead for the overnight stay.

Happy hour drinks,

Since the main dockage is along a fixed dock it's fairly easy to pull up and the dockmaster is very helpful and friendly. I ate at the restaurant (nothing else around) the food is good. There aren't any showers, but I didn't find that to be an issue.

Dock guy, Steve, carefully made sure we were tied with long spring lines to handle the tide. This is a great place to stay. Lively and fun but also quiet and calm at night. Restaurant is good and convenient. Currents not a significant issue when taken bow first.

Late-night food,

While visiting, boaters will have access to great amenities including restrooms and a full provisioned Ships Store. If a floating dock is preferred, the marina will accommodate. The available amenities of the docks, which are located outside of a restaurant and bar, are noted on the Snag-A-Slip profile.

Staff required to disinfect surfaces between visits,

Be prepared and time your canal transit and docking based on tides. Check AIS for commercial traffic before departing the dock. Note that the dock has no cleats to which you can tie, you'll need to throw a clove hitch or something around the pilings. The dock hands are quite good about helping with line handling.

The menu for Schaefer's Canal House may have changed since the last user update. Sirved does not guarantee prices or the availability of menu items. Dock crew were very accommodating.

There are currently no photos.

Nice location with the restaurant and the dockmaster hours were very convenient for our 5p arrival. Only suggestion is to add showers to the facility. Please provide your ETA, if you will be needing fuel, and direction of approach in the Notes section at checkout. Note that the marina has both fixed and floating docks on site, however the floating docks do not offer shore power. A band was playing, dinner was being served along the docks, and after a quick shower on board, dinner on the dock was fantastic! The band continued after we went back on board, and it added to our cocktails on the flybridge.

Great location midpoint on the C&D canal. While Schaefer's Canal House is an awesome marina, they also have an amazing bar and restaurant attached to it that second to none. During the season, you will find live music and events at The Lighthouse Bar on site. Additionally, the restaurant has beautiful deck seating that overlooks the water, with both indoor and outdoor dining options available.

The boat traffic both large and small, rocked us all night long. There is no bath house, so that is certainly a “con”. The restaurant was the only real bright spot for this location. We arrived late but they stuck around to help us tie up and made suggestions for the best fendering arrangements. Although we were tied on the river face dock we had no wake issues all night.

Dockmaster and crew were excellent in meeting all our needs. Location much quieter than Chesapeake Inn. Enjoyed the bike trail and restaurant accommodations. Dock hands were very helpful ,especially with their current and friendly. Steve, the Dockmaster, went out of his way to make sure we had a great stay. We will definitely stop here again.

Strong currents can be expected. We really enjoyed the bar and restaurant. I would definitely stay there again. Nice people and the dock hands do a great job. I recommend using this marina when passing thru the C & D Canal.

Great watching canal traffic. Be aware there are no showers or local stores. Current runs strong up to 2.5 knots.

Comfort food,

The facility has undergone some fantastic rehabilitations to both the dock area as well as the main house. Boaters are able to dock at either the fixed dock when booking with shore power, or the floating docks if power is not needed. The marina offers 30amp and 50amp shore power.

Liked it so much we stayed a second night. Quaint town and very nice restaurant. Please note fuel dock is being renovating and will not be available until May. Schaefer's Canal House menu has been digitised by Sirved.

LGBTQ+ friendly,

Current and pilings made for a rough night. The restaurant was lively and the food was good. As to the accommodations there is a substantial amount of current through the marina and the tidal change is roughly 3’. With the marina only offering pilings that makes it tough to position bumpers for cushioning as the shifting current bounces the boat around.

Great help from Dockmaster and dockhand. The Army Corp had actually closed the C&D Canal due to fog. I contacted the Dockmaster and he called me when the Canal was open to traffic.

Wheelchair accessible seating,

schaefer's canal house chesapeake city maryland

Staff was excellent from the time I hit the Fuel dock, until I was down the pier at my slip. Dockhands were knowledgeable and knew how to secure boat to fixed pier. Fun being on the edge of the restaurant and people eating who wanted to be more informed about boats. Great experience on the C and D canal. The staff was incredibly helpful when docking and getting advice on transiting the canal and out the the Delaware Bay. The restaurant is very good and the area is clean and well maintained.

Staff wear masks,

Very friendly and competent Dock Master, Steve, guided us right into fuel dock and then around to out spot on the bulkhead. Despite passing ships, there was very little rocking from wakes. Restaurant was good and steps from the boat. This is a really nice joint. Good food & drink, with easy access. We docked right along-side parallel to the canal.

Dinner,

Wakes from passing boats were not bad even on a weekend. A little noisier than most places due to the bridge traffic and the restaurant but not bad. Good and pleasant dock help (Olivia).

Steven the Dock Master was amazing. He's very knowledgeable and even washed the water marks and filled our fenders when we got fuel. Passed out leaflets with all kind of info. And cracking jokes the whole time.

Marina staff is very knowledgeable on currents and did a great job of securing the boat for an overnight stay. Will be using the Marina on my return trip. After a long run up the Chesapeake with foul current all day, we arrived at sunset. Steve stayed late to handle our lines for us and could not have been more helpful. The long face dock makes for a convenient stop when transiting the canal. Good dinner at the restaurant.

Again, great docking support. The restaurant had a live band and the food was excellent. Very pleasant stay and great stop between Cape May and Annapolis. Nice stop between the Cheasapeake and Cape May. In the past, we have stopped at Delaware City but this is more convenient. We were docked at a long fixed dock alongside the canal and the restaurant.

Much enjoyed the large bar/restaurant - good food and service. This is a restaurant with a dock that accepts transients, not a true marina. Note that they have fuel (gas and diesel), but no other amenities for transients (no pump-out/showers/laundry/after-hours toilets etc.). Those would be welcome additions that could lead to longer stays.

Filled with a wide variety of seafood specialties and casual bites, there is a taste here that will please any pallet. The restaurant does have special menus for holidays, as well as an amazing event space, perfect for hosting your next big shindig. The beautiful veranda that overlooks the creek gives guests a quiet spot to catch up on some serious R&R.

Great food at the restaurant. Tom the Dockmaster was very friendly and helpful. He guided us in to our spot over the radio and took our lines on arrival. Lively place with live music over the weekend. Nice location and great staff. The restaurant was good and reasonably priced.

Nice for a quick stop especially with the shoaling at the entrance to the Anchorage across the canal. Marina Staff are great but tug and barge traffic very challenging. A little crazy on a holiday but the staff is great and works hard. We will definitely add Schaefer's to our 'must return' list. Students in this program will engage in immersive, collaborative projects with peers and professors. Past projects have focused on areas such as games utilization in entertainment; information visualization; and sustainable energy, medicine, and therapy. Examples of required courses in the Information Technology major include Software Development Using C#; Human-Computer Interaction; Software Development Using Python; Website Development; and Technology Infrastructure. The culminating experience for the program is the Information Technology Internship or Capstone in Information technology, student’s choice. Graduates are prepared to pursue roles across the information technology sector, and the game design industry. SMU Guildhall students also benefit from the program’s partnerships with hundreds of studios and companies across the globe.

Game Design and Development Careers

Game designer programs offer courses spanning all aspects of the design process, including designing levels and writing plots. Expect to see variations of the following fundamental and major-specific courses in a game design program. On September 23, 1946, University of North Carolina at Charlotte (UNC Charlotte) opened as an evening college center for returning veterans. Today, the school serves more than 30,000 students enrolled in 171 majors in 77 programs leading to bachelor's degrees, 65 master's degrees, and 24 doctoral degrees in seven professional colleges.

RCAD Game Art graduates have been hired at major companies and studios such as Electronic Arts (EA), Blizzard Entertainment, Rockstar Games, Microsoft, Riot Games, Hasbro, Epic Games, Netflix, Bethesda, Naughty Dog, and Meta. The Game Art BFA culminates with the Game Thesis Project completed across four courses including Game Thesis Preproduction; Game Thesis Project 1A; Game Thesis Project 1B; and Game Thesis Project II. This team-based project results in a finished game in an area such as entertainment, education, training, or healthcare. Examples include Programming Media; Virtuality; Contemporary Topics in Media Art; and Creating Context & Collaborative Practice. All MFA students will have the opportunity to collaborate with instructors on research projects and/or work as teaching assistants.

They will learn to edit, manipulate, and develop digital video, model, rig, and light 3D characters and scenes, and prepare a professional portfolio and demo reel. Programs for aspiring game designers are offered through the school’s Department of Computer Science and Software Engineering. Options include BS and MS degrees in Computer Science and Minors in Computer Science. The Department offers an undergraduate Concentration in Interactive Entertainment (IE). Students in the Minor can focus in IE through electives, and MS students have the option to specialize in multiple areas, including IE. The Game Design MFA is an online two-year terminal degree that explores the design and development of games as a creative practice.

Students in this program will take courses such as Research Methodologies in Game Design, Game Production, Game Business, Entrepreneurship and Practice, and the Game Design Graduate Seminar. An internship is part of this 36 credit hour program, as well as the opportunity to enhance the degree through electives. Just a few elective options include Game Studio Management, Advanced Music and Sound for Games, Advanced Game Animation, and Interactive Game Systems Design. Students in all concentrations will complete a total of 124 credit hours including 76 in the Games + Simulation Major.

The Animation & Visual Effects (VFX) and Digital Media Programs are accredited by the National Association of Schools of Arts & Design (NASAD). The Department of Brain and Cognitive Sciences (BCS) at Massachusetts Institute of Technology has an additional pathway for designers looking to specialize in unique areas such as psychological games and behavioral change. The Brain & Cognitive Science BS is provided in partnership with the EECS Department. Finally, students who are interested in the business side of game development, or those looking to launch their own studios, can enroll in the Business BS Program, housed in the MIT Sloan School of Management. Students in all programs have access to the Virtual and Augmented Design Lab, the game studio known as DePaul Originals, and CDM facilities such as the gameplay, playtest and usability, XR, and game development and research labs. Other program benefits include participation in a variety of exhibitions, internship opportunities at local and national studios, and the biennial Japan Study Abroad Program.

Savannah College of Art and Design is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC). With more than 100 degree programs and 75+ minors and certificate options, SCAD has more degree programs and specializations than any other art and design college in the country. Founded in 1978, Savannah College of Art and Design serves more than 15,000 students across campuses in Atlanta and Savannah, Georgia, and Lacoste, France. The BA Program is project-based and explores topics such as the game design process, emerging interactive media, and production.

House of the Dragon Wikipedia

cast of the house

Ser Simon Strong (Simon Russell Beale) will step up as Castellan of Harrenhal, Ser Gwayne Hightower (Freddie Fox) will surface as Otto Hightower’s son, and Alyn of Hull (Abubakar Salim) will follow up on his work in the Stepstones campaign. Millie Alcock and the rest of the first-generation Targaryens and Hightowers will, as far as HBO has indicated, not be returning this season in flashbacks. That doesn’t mean that we won’t see them again someday, but at least Paddy Considine does not have to jeopardize his own health for another stunning performance that the awards circuit decides to ignore. First, Daemon must zoom around Westeros to gather as many houses as possible for that fight. I suspect that the strategy set-up will take up much of this second season, but unlike with the book, Rhaenyra might even leave Dragonstone to participate. And we will literally see fire rain down from the sky when the two sides have to force allegiance from reluctant settlements.

Hugh Laurie (Dr. Gregory House)

As babies, the children were played by Daniel and Kevin Renteria, and in season six, the roles of the twins were succeeded by Blake and Dylan Tuomy-Wilhoit. The last main character added was Steve Hale, who was D.J.'s boyfriend in seasons six and seven. As Dr. Robert Chase, the diagnostic team's surgeon and intensive care specialist, Jesse Spencer played a prominent role throughout House's tenure. The Australian actor was previously known for Neighbours and Uptown Girl, though House is arguably considered his most famous role. Nevertheless, once the Fox medical show concluded, Spencer joined another long-running series.

The House (2017 film)

The producers' first choice to play the character of Danny Tanner was Bob Saget. Saget was not available to appear in the pilot due to his commitment as an on-air contributor to CBS's The Morning Program. Posey only appeared in the show's unaired pilot; which is included on the DVD release of Season 1. In season two, Danny is reassigned from his duties as a sports anchor by his television station to become co-host of the morning show, Wake Up, San Francisco, and is teamed up with Nebraska native Rebecca Donaldson.

Jacobson has starred in a number of television series and movies, including "Ray Donovan," "Cars 2," and "Transformers." As well as continuing to star in television series and films, most notably as the main protagonist in "Once Upon a Time" from 2011 to 2018, Morrison has moved into directing since the end of "House." NBC's streaming service will be launching on July 15th and you'll be able to catch up with your most jaded but favorite diagnostic team. The second episode takes place during the present day and is directed by Niki Lindroth von Bahr. This houseguest is a property developer and finds that the house has been infested. The last episode is directed by Paloma Baeza, and it looks to take place during an end-times scenario.

Specifically, Spencer can be seen as Lieutenant/Captain Matthew Casey on the NBC drama series, Chicago Fire. And Chicago Med, respectively, and he also appeared in 2015's action/crime-thriller, The Girl Is in Trouble. Furthermore, Spencer lent his voice to a brief role in Phineas and Ferb. Outside of acting, Spencer keeps in touch with Hugh Laurie through their charity cover group, Band from TV. Created by David Shore, the Emmy-winning series ran for eight seasons on Fox and it was one of the highest-rated shows on television during its peak. It also notably elevated Kal Penn and Olivia Wilde's careers, who joined the acclaimed series during its second half.

Sauriyan Sapkota - Prospero “Perry” Usher

We were introduced to Jennifer Morrison's character Dr. Allison Cameron in the first season of House, where she was the only woman on the team at first. After portraying the unforgettable role on the show, Leonard went on to play a recurring role in Falling Skies and in the miniseries The Hot Zone. He also took the stage in theatre productions of To Kill a Mockingbird, Camelot and more. We loved watching Peter Jacobson's portrayal as Taub, a dynamic character that was both an addict and a voice of reason for the other doctors. While she was the last to join House's Diagnostics Team, Odette Annable made a big impression during the show's final season. As the water and mist continue to seep into the house and Jen prepares to leave the house with Cosmos, she puts Rosa into a dream-like trance, in which Rosa sees the house destroyed and her friends abandoning her.

Episodes

So, we’ll see the “Dance of the Dragons,” so nicknamed by the civilians of Westeros, take place with mass casualties as a result. Annabeth Gish was also married to another of Robert Longstreet’s characters, Mr. Dudley, as Mrs. Dudley in The Haunting of Hill House. She can also be seen in Mayfair Witches, Midnight Mass, #Freerayshawn, Barry, and more. The actress previously had smaller roles in The Haunting of Hill House, The Midnight Club, and The Haunting of Bly Manor. Originally, this character was played by Frank Langella, who had filmed for over two months. But following reports of misconduct on set, he was swiftly fired, and all of his scenes were reshot with Langella.

The series experienced heavy turnover with its writing staff throughout its run. Show creator and executive producer Jeff Franklin was the only writer to remain with the series throughout its entire eight-season run (Franklin also wrote and directed several episodes during the first five seasons). All seven of the original cast members remained with the show through its entire eight-year run, with five characters added to the main cast along the way. D.J.'s best friend Kimmy was a recurring character in seasons one through four, who was upgraded to a regular in season five. Rebecca originally appeared for six episodes in season two; producers decided to expand her role and made her a regular the following season. After marrying Jesse, they have twins Nicky and Alex, who make their debut in season five.

After portraying Dr. Lisa Cuddy, which won Lisa Edelstein a slew of awards like a People's Choice Awards trophy, she took on recurring roles in shows like American Dad! After serving his time in the White House, Penn returned to acting, including taking a lead role in the short-lived but acclaimed series Sunnyside. Robert Sean Leonard played Dr. James Wilson, who was House's only true friend and quite frankly one of our favorite supporting actors thanks to their buddy dynamic. After it wrapped, she starred in two shows that were one-season wonders (The Grinder and The Astronaut Wives Club) before landing her latest big role as Reign on Supergirl. Will also air a mini-marathon of House episodes on Friday, July 24 starting at 2 p.m., so we're catching up with the cast and what they've achieved since we last saw them at Princeton–Plainsboro Teaching Hospital. Most notably, "The House" employs stop-motion animation visuals to tell the story.

On the day of the viewing, the guests are unimpressed by the house, but a strangely proportioned couple remains, expressing a strong interest in buying the house. Over the next few days, the odd couple remain firmly settled in the house, the bugs return in force, and the bank keeps demanding repayment of the developer's business loan. The developer decides to stop indulging the couple, only for many members of their family to show up wanting to enter the house. He tries to call the police, who instead caution him for his constant, overly familiar phone calls to his dentist, who the film had led the audience to believe was his romantic partner.

The series' executive producers included Shore, Attanasio, Attanasio's business partner Katie Jacobs, and film director Bryan Singer. It was filmed largely in a neighborhood and business district in Los Angeles County's Westside called Century City. It received high critical acclaim, and was consistently one of the highest-rated series in the United States. A friend of Carl Radke (they'd even shared a house at Coachella), Amit Neuman joined Summer House as a full-time cast member in Season 2, transitioning to a guest role for Season 3 before leaving the series.

During the summer of 1991, reruns of the early seasons began airing in a daily daytime strip on NBC.[13] Starting in September 1991, Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution began distributing Full House for broadcast in off-network syndication and was syndicated on various local stations nationwide until 2003. House often clashes with his fellow physicians, including his own diagnostic team, because many of his hypotheses about patients' illnesses are based on subtle or controversial insights. His flouting of hospital rules and procedures frequently leads him into conflict with his boss, hospital administrator and Dean of Medicine Dr. Lisa Cuddy (Lisa Edelstein). His only true friend is Dr. James Wilson (Robert Sean Leonard), head of the Department of Oncology.

Here is everything we know about the upcoming show ahead of its release. After the family moves in, Mabel notices several peculiar things about the house and the workers constantly refitting it, but her parents are mesmerized by the house and its luxuries. Raymond becomes increasingly obsessed with the house's fireplace, which he constantly fails to light up, while Penny spends more and more time sewing drapes. Mabel becomes further put off when her parents don attire designed by Van Schoonbeek which resembles the furniture they adore (a chair and curtains).

Pictures, received negative reviews from critics[3] and flopped at the box office, grossing $34 million worldwide against its $40 million budget. Lisa Edelstein starred as Dr. Lisa Cuddy, Princeton–Plainsboro Teaching Hospital's Dean of Medicine and Dr. House's love interest, in "House" from seasons one to seven. While her season seven arc as the Martha M. Masters was short and sweet, we've seen a lot of Amber Tamblyn since when she starred in 24 episodes of Two and a Half Men and being a critical voice around the #MeToo movement. After her role as Dr. Chi Park, Charlyne Yi landed a variety of co-stars in movies like This Is 40, Second Act and Always Be My Maybe and also voices various characters on the animated series Steven Universe. As the show's titular, grumpy doctor, Hugh Laurie led eight seasons of the iconic show and scooped up Golden Globe awards in the process.

Gildford previously played a role in Criminal Minds, The Midnight Club, Midnight Mass, Good Girls, L.A.’s Finest, and more. Siegel starred as Maddie in Mike Flanagan’s Hush and can also be seen in The Haunting of Hill House, Midnight Mass, The Haunting of Bly Manor, and Gerald’s Game. Napoleon “Leo” Usher is described as a video game patron and the socialite of the Usher family. He also happens to have a drug problem, something that becomes problematic for those around him. Miller played Hannah Grose in The Haunting of Blu Manor and also appeared in television shows Foundation, The Peripheral, and The Diplomat.

Jesse and Rebecca ("Becky") eventually fall in love and get married in season four. In season five, Becky gives birth to twin sons, Nicholas ("Nicky") and Alexander ("Alex"). House of the Dragon is supposed to be a multi-season story and news broke as the final stages of filming on the second season that producers were already mapping out House of the Dragon Season 3.

Back home, Frank convinces the Johansens to start an underground casino at his house to raise money for Alex's tuition and to help him get his wife back. The casino operation proves to be running smoothly as they gain more customers. In another community town-hall meeting, Bob becomes suspicious at the low attendance and suspends the meeting to launch an investigation. Back at the Johansens' casino, Frank discovers that one of the gamblers, Carl, is counting cards. The Johansens and Frank confront him, but he brags that he works for mob boss Tommy Papouli. Scott accidentally chops off Carl's middle finger, earning him the nickname "The Butcher", making the community afraid of him, which inadvertently increases their profits.

While it never gained wide commercial success, Yi was notably best known for producing, co-writing, and starring in the 2009 romantic comedy Paper Heart, which also starred Michael Cera. Nowadays, Yi primarily works as a voice actress, notably playing regular roles in We Bare Bears and Steven Universe. She was also seen in The Disaster Artist, Always Be My Maybe, Jexi, and heard in Trolls World Tour. Yi is also an accomplished musician and author; she recently published a book of poetry.

Mya Allen joined Summer House in Season 6 and stayed through Season 7. While on the show, Mya had quit her restaurant consulting job to pursue her cookie business full time. Jordan's decision to stop being a full-time cast member came of his own accord when he left the Hamptons partway through Season 4. Fitness instructor and healthy eating proponent Alex Wach was a main cast member on Season 6 of Summer House. Still a big fan of all things wellness, the model is a personal trainer at Tone House in New York City. In May 2022, Hannah married fellow comedian Des Bishop after two years of dating.

The show was expected to be delayed due to the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes, but the series managed to continue production because the cast had contracts that were not with the striking guilds. With new episodes fast approaching, it’s time to delve into everything we know about the next chapter. House of the Dragon, a prequel charting the downfall of the Targaryen dynasty, premiered in 2022 and delivered plenty of fantasy drama to reignite interest in the franchise. His writing can also be found in The Playlist, Cut Print Film, We Got This Covered, The Young Folks, Slate and other outlets. He also co-hosts the weekly film/TV podcast Cinemaholics with Jon Negroni and he likes to think he's a professional Garfield enthusiast. After its first five seasons, House was included in various critics' top-ten lists; these are listed below in order of rank.

On the other side, Aegon Targaryen II had been erroneously elevated to king after his wife, Alicent Hightower, mistakenly interpreted King Viserys’ deathbed ramblings. Twenty-five Republicans voted against the fourth bill, which included measures that could lead to a ban on TikTok in the United States and that would redirect funds from seized Russian assets to help aid Ukraine. Democrats put up a big vote — 174 — in favor of this bill, which was intended to sweeten the overall package for conservatives. Still, 37 “no” votes, while a break from Washington’s ironclad support for the Jewish state, fell short of the opposition bloc progressives had hoped to muster. Thirty-nine Democrats had voted “no” on Friday on the rule to allow the foreign aid package to come to the House floor, a target that progressives just missed on Saturday on the Israel bill.

After saying goodbye to Dr. Foreman, Epps starred in "Resurrection" between 2014 and 2015, and "Shooter" between 2016 and 2018. Since then, Edelstein has had roles in "The Good Doctor," "The Kominsky Method," and most recently, "Little Bird." One of TV's most famous antiheroes, House was a genius, yet despised, doctor who was often able to solve medical puzzles nobody else could.

Diagnosed with terminal Huntington's disease, Thirteen appeared in 81 episodes of "House." Almost immediately after "House" finished, Spencer took up a role as firefighter Matthew Casey in the drama "Chicago Fire," which he held until the show ended in 2021. Like Foreman, Dr. Robert Chase was part of Dr. House's diagnostics team until the end of season three, when House fired him. Laurie has starred in multiple television shows since the conclusion of "House." After leaving the show to pursue her film career, Wilde is a burgeoning writer, actress and director, whose directorial debut Booksmart last year premiered to wild praise.

Throughout House's run, six of the main actors have received star billing. They kiss and agree to try being a couple.[115] Throughout season seven, House and Cuddy try to make their relationship work, but Cuddy eventually breaks it off because of House's addiction. House struggles to deal with this and, in the season-seven finale, drives his car into Cuddy's living room in anger.
